CONTEXT AND CHALLENGES

Perched at the top of the village of Curban, this project opens onto a mountain panorama, green in summer and white in winter, where light evolves with the rhythm of the seasons. It consists of the rehabilitation of the existing house and its extension through the integration of the neighboring building, while preserving its character and history. The intervention aims to reveal the site's potential, working with the topography, rock and surrounding landscape.

ARCHITECTURAL APPROACH

The architecture relies on the existing structure to create bright and generous spaces. Vaults and exposed beams are preserved and highlighted, while volumes are reorganized to capture light and distant views. A mezzanine in local wood enriches the spatial reading and offers new perspectives. The house, partially semi-buried, is set into the rock and develops varied atmospheres, between intimacy and openness to the landscape. The exposed terracotta tiles, wooden joinery and antique furniture contribute to the warm and authentic atmosphere of the place.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

The project favors local and durable materials: wood for structures and joinery, stone and terracotta tiles for floors and finishes. The extension and integration into the rock were designed with respect for the existing building and natural site. Construction and architectural choices favor light, comfort and durability, while affirming a sober and respectful approach to the mountain context.
